Mexican Air Fryer Cauliflower (Gluten free, Vegan)

This Mexican air fryer cauliflower is the perfect side dish or appetizer. In just 12 minutes you’ll have crispy fried cauliflower bites with amazing flavor that will please any crowd. Gluten free, Keto, and Vegan too!

This Mexican air fryer cauliflower is my new favorite side dish! Not only is it quick and easy to make, but it’s a great way to change up your normal ways of cooking cauliflower. If you’re not a big fan of cauliflower, then you’ve never tried air fried cauliflower.

These air fryer roasted cauliflower bites are so addicting! They’re:

  • crispy on the outside
  • easy to make
  • warm
  • crunchy
  • healthy
  • low carb
  • hearty
  • the best side dish or appetizer!

LET’S TALK INGREDIENTS

1 medium head cauliflower: choose a head of cauliflower that is firm and pale. Avoid heads that have dark spots.

Olive oil or avocado oil: these are the best oils to use with cauliflower. Make sure to stay away from harmful oils like vegetable oil, sunflower oil, or canola oil.

Let’s talk spices baby! Cumin, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, paprika, and chili powder are all staple spices that you NEED in your kitchen cabinet. Don’t skimp out on any of these to make this recipe.

Lime: if you want more Mexican flavor, squeeze some lime juice over the cauliflower, and toss once cooked. It really completes the Mexican flavor!

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CAULIFLOWER

  1. In a small bowl or ramekin whisk together cumin, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, paprika, and chili powder. Set aside.
  2. Chop cauliflower head into small 1 1/2″ florets. Using tongs or your hands, toss them in a large bowl with olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle seasoning onto cauliflower florets and toss until cauliflower is evenly coated.
  4. Arrange cauliflower florets on air fryer basket making sure they don’t overlap. You may have to work in two batches. Cook at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on size of cauliflower florets and type of air fryer.
  5. Transfer cauliflower to a serving bowl or plate, and drizzle lime juice over cauliflower. Serve warm.

HOW LONG TO AIR FRY CAULIFLOWER

Cook time will depend on size of cauliflower, and type of air fryer. When chopping the cauliflower, aim to chop it into 1 1/2 inch florets.

For larger florets, cook at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes.

For smaller florets cook at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. If you have a mix of small and large florets, take the small ones out of the basket when they are done, and cook the large florets for longer time. Cauliflower will be crispy and charred when cooked for the proper amount of time.

CAN I AIR FRY FROZEN CAULIFLOWER?

Most definitely! Follow the exact directions up until the cook time. Cook the frozen cauliflower for about 20 minutes. Make sure to shake the basket every 5 minutes to ensure they crisp on all sides.

OTHER WAYS TO MAKE AIR FRY CAULIFLOWER

Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Toss cauliflower florets in olive oil, salt, and pepper. Air fry cauliflower and toss with your favorite buffalo sauce. This one contains the best ingredients I have found, and uses Olive Oil instead of harmful Sunflower Oil.

Air Fryer Cauliflower Parmesan

Toss cauliflower florets in olive oil, salt, and pepper. Air fry cauliflower and top with fresh parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, and lemon juice.

Air Fryer Cauliflower Wings

Toss cauliflower florets with olive oil, salt, and pepper and place them into the air fryer. Transfer cauliflower to a bowl and toss them in your favorite wing sauce. My favorite is Primal Kitchen Classic BBQ sauce.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Don’t skimp on the seasoning. This is what makes the cauliflower so good! The cauliflower florets should be coated with the seasoning before placing them in the air fryer.
  • Don’t overcrowd the cauliflower! This will prevent it from getting crisp on all sides. You want to cook the cauliflower in two separate batches.
  • Pause the air fryer every 5 minutes to shake the cauliflower. This will ensure all sides of the cauliflower florets get extra crispy!
  • If you don’t have an air fryer and would like to roast the cauliflower in the oven, bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 35 minutes, tossing halfway through.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cauliflower, chopped into 1 1/2″ florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons parsley
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 lime

Instructions

  2. Place cauliflower florets in a large bowl and toss with olive oil using tongs or your hands. Add cumin, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, paprika, chili powder, and sea salt. Toss until cauliflower bites are evenly coated with seasoning.
  3. Place cauliflower in the air fryer basket spreading evenly making sure there is no overlap. You will want to work in two batches. Cook at 400 degrees for 12 minutes, shaking the basket half way through. Transfer cauliflower to a bowl or plate, and squeeze lime juice over the cauliflower. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Cook time will depend on size of cauliflower. For larger florets, cook at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes. If you have a mix of small and large florets, take the small ones out of the basket when they are done, and cook the large florets for longer time.
